About Balagam

History: During Muslim rule the village was known as Ghebanpur. After it became deserted it was resettled by Sorathiya Ahir Bala Bheda, which gave it the name Balagam; another view says the name comes from its elevated location. In British times the village was ruled by Solanki Rajputs, and Balagam was a separate revenue sub-division under Junagadh.

Places to see: the Dasaram temple of the Das Bava sect of Margi sadhus and his jal-samadhi site, revered by the Ahir and Sagar communities — legend says Das went to bathe and was never seen again; his turban, found near a well, is still worshipped. About a mile east of the village is the Vasangdevi temple, the kuldevi of the Joshipura Nagar Brahmins of Vadnagar.
